Minutes of the meeting 7th July 2003

The minutes of the LOC meeting on 7th July were agreed as a correct record.

Proposed: Sue Stentiford, seconded: G Cowley.

Matters arising

Diabetic Screening Committee meeting attended by D Shepherd. David gave feedback from the meeting. There will be two Canon cameras (inc software) to be purchased. One camera for the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and one for the Northern General Hospital. The cost to purchase is approx £29,950 each.
The committee agreed that when funds are available to Optometrists, these cameras could be purchased at much lower prices.

S Stentiford proposed a questionnaire be sent out to all optometrists on the Diabetic Screening scheme. This questionnaire will be designed to see which practices would want a camera and whether they would be prepared to part fund this. The object is that lower prices could mean more cameras.

Anne Dean is leaving her post with the NHS. G Cowley proposed the committee send flowers as a thank you for her support. Christine to organise.

Shared Care: Alex Gage has a meeting with Nick Ryan on Monday 15th September. The PCT are piloting a scheme for Chronic Headaches. The pathway is via GP’s. Alex suggests that included in this scheme should be a full eye examination. The committee agreed the cost of this would be between £35 – £45.

Glaucoma referral refinement: Sue Stentiford suggested a committee to deal with this would be desirable.
