Sheffield Local Optometric Committee

Secretaries report year ending 31st March 2011

It has been another busy year – much of our correspondence has been done via email the website
Our website continues to grow in popularity. The total combined hits as yesterday was 127,460, with over 66 thousand of these from the last twelve months alone. The website has also attracted the attention of the national optometric community – this year I have received requests from other LOC’s for information about our local schemes as well as a request from City University for information to help with a study into the effectiveness of IOP refinement schemes
We have sent a number of email campaigns this year including information on the launch of the PRR scheme and also the introduction of the new GOS18 from. We have also sent a number of good old fashioned paper letters.
A letter was sent to every optometrist on the Sheffield performers list with information about the changes at the RIS. A letter was sent to encourage optometrists to include as much clinical detail in their referrals as possible. A further letter was felt necessary to request that optometrists identify themselves on their referrals as well as including all the relevant patient information.
May I say Thank You to our PCT colleagues, for their help sending these letters. It is a costly and time consuming process writing to every optometrists but it has been made which much easier through their continued help and support
