DIRECTORATE OF OPHTHALMOLOGY – EYE CASUALTY CHANGES IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
Dear Colleague
From the 5th of February 2007 eye casualty will be changing.
The new Eye Emergency Centre will be a practitioner led service. Patients will still be able to exercise choice and come to the eye emergency centre for urgent eye problems. Most problems will be managed by the eye care practitioners but patients with serious emergency eye problems will be seen by an appropriate specialty medical team.
General Practitioners and Optometrists will still be able to ring up and speak to an ophthalmologist for advice on 0114 2713731
The arrangements for urgent access to eye care during evenings and weekends will remain unchanged.
We anticipate that these changes will result in an efficient, high quality service for patients who require urgent attention for their eye problems.
If you would like further information on these changes please contact Mrs Joy Barnes, Ophthalmology Matron on 0114 2712681 or via the Hospital switchboard 0114 2711900 and ask for bleep 388.
